Biography:
Hi, I'm Kayla (she/her).
Raised in small-town Southern Alberta the oldest sibling in a family of six, I was bursting at the seams for change. College and the desire to make a difference pulled me to the nearest city to study Journalism Arts. My connection to creativity, a strong digital aptitude, compelling communication abilities, and a passion for travel and the outdoors have all led me here on this journey...
From starting my career as one of fifty year-round residents in the remote village of Waterton Lakes National Park to packing up a camper van in pursuit of a West Coast lifestyle, I have immersed myself in different communities from Vancouver to Whistler and now across the Salish Sea. Dedicated to environmentalism and a vegan ethos, I am a queer human simply creating and living (and mostly trying to get out and play) with my Korean-Jindo rescue dog, Archie, here in the Comox Valley, on Vancouver Island.
I respectfully acknowledge that I was born and raised in the Southern Alberta prairies between the Piegan, Kainai, and Sikisika First Nations. Today, I live and work on the traditional unceded territory of the K’òmoks First Nation – Coast Salish, Nuu chah nulth, and Kwakiutl peoples, on Vancouver Island.
